Subfloor Assessment and Levelling
The subfloor is the base beneath the flooring you see. Checking and preparing it is an important part of a new installation, particularly if an old covering has been removed or the surface has noticeable dips, ridges or loose areas. The aim is a sound base that meets the chosen flooring system's requirements.
I assess the accessible surface for flatness, stability, moisture concerns and residues that may affect the next layer. Depending on the base and proposed finish, the agreed preparation may include suitable local repairs, treatment of high or low areas, or an appropriate levelling or underlayment system. Materials and drying time need to work with the installation that follows.
A surface that is flat enough for a product is not necessarily perfectly horizontal across the whole building. Levelling also does not solve structural movement, an active leak or an unsuitable base on its own. If those issues are present, they need to be addressed before the floor is covered.
Let me know what flooring you intend to install and what is currently underneath. Photos, product details and any concerns about movement or unevenness will help us decide what needs checking on site and how to define the preparation work.
