Flooring advice
What should I send you for a flooring quote?
You do not need a perfect measurement or a technical description to start. Tell me your Melbourne suburb, which rooms need work and what you want to change. A few clear photos and an approximate floor area help me understand whether we are discussing a new installation, a repair or a timber-floor renovation.
For installation, include the existing floor type and the product you are considering, if you have one. For repairs, send one wider picture showing the location and a close-up of the problem. Tell me when you first noticed it, whether it has changed and whether there has been any water exposure.
Access and preparation affect the work too. Let me know about stairs, apartment access, parking arrangements and furniture that will remain in the rooms. If other trades are working, mention their proposed sequence. We should agree who moves furniture and appliances, removes old materials and handles any related wall or painting work.
With more than 20 years in flooring installation and repairs, I still prefer to inspect details that a photo cannot settle rather than give a confident answer from incomplete information. An initial estimate and a confirmed scope are different things. Site visits are arranged according to distance and the work involved, with any visit charge discussed beforehand.
When comparing quotes, compare what is included: preparation, materials, underlay where required, skirting or trims, removal and finishing. If a condition is hidden beneath the old floor, I will identify it as something to confirm rather than assume it is already covered. The aim is a straightforward description of the work you are paying for.
